Principal's Message - 12/25/16

Good evening, this is Mr. Kennedy, principal of Forbush High School.


I want to take a moment this evening to say Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all of the Forbush High School students, teachers, parents, and community members. As our first semester winds down, I want to thank everyone for a great school year so far. As a reminder to students, there will be no school next week. Classes will resume on January 4 and state exams begin on January 9.

I hope all of our Forbush students, staff, and parents have a wonderful and relaxing Holiday Season. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Principal's Message - 12/18/16

Good evening, this is Mr. Kennedy, principal of Forbush High School. I have a few announcements and updates I would like to share with you this evening.

I want to begin this evening by thanking all of the students, staff, and community members who participated in our FHS Angel Tree. 21 families received over 100 gift donations this year. THANK YOU to everyone who participated and a special THANK YOU goes out to Renaee Gentry, who organized this year’s Angel Tree project.

I also want to thank all of the students who participated in our Friends Feeding Friends event. Over 20,000 items were donated and will go to families in need this Holiday season. Special thanks to Mr. Miner, Mrs. Beuter, Mrs. Jordan and their classes for leading the school in donations, and to the FCA and Junior ROTC for their support as well. Also, a special thanks goes out to Mr. Pruitt and Mr. Hauser for organizing the program.

Early Dismissal Wednesday

I would like to remind everyone that this Wednesday, December 21, will be an early dismissal day. All students will be dismissed at noon. There will be no school for students from Thursday, December 22 through Tuesday, January 3. Students will return to school on Wednesday, January 4.

First Semester Exams
First semester exam week will be January 9 through 13. Clubs and Organizations
Congratulations to Edwin Alvarenga and Jonathan Lopez on their recent first place finishes at the Big A Memorial Tournament. Caleb Price finished 2nd and Chase Farmer finished 4th. Congratulations to all of our wrestlers on a great performance.

The FFA has poinsettias on sale now. This year the FFA has red 6-inch pots that are being sold for $8 each. Please let Mrs. Jensen know how many you would like. Supply is limited so order yours while they last.

Congratulations to our HOSA students who competed in the District 7 Competition last weekend. 15 students placed in the top-10 in various categories; great job students! A picture of the winners has been posted to our Twitter account and on our Facebook page.

The Dewey's Holiday Store is open in Yadkinville! It is stocked with cookies, cheese straws and other yummy things. The store is located in the lobby of Collide Church and is open until 6:30pm, Monday through Saturday until December 24. The store will also be open Sunday afternoon and all proceeds from the Dewey's Store support the Forbush Middle School and High School Band program.

All Senior and Junior baseball players need to attend a mandatory meeting Tuesday, December 20, during break in coach Moss’ room (408D).

Principal's Message - 12/11/16

Good evening, this is Mr. Kennedy, principal of Forbush High School. I have a few announcements and updates I would like to share with you this evening.

I want to begin tonight by reminding everyone that our Winter Band Concert is scheduled for tomorrow (Monday, December 12). This performance will begin at 7pm in the auditorium.

Also, our Winter Chorus Concert will be this Thursday, December 15. This performance will also begin at 7pm and in the auditorium. Thank you in advance for supporting our band and chorus programs at FHS!

School Counseling Department
Seniors, if you have been accepted to one or more colleges, please bring your college acceptance letter to the School Counseling office so that we can recognize your accomplishments.

Clubs and Organizations
If any Beta member is interested in attending the State Convention, February 3rd and 4th, there will be an info meeting on Thursday, December 15 in Rachel Davis's room. You have the option to attend the meeting at 7:35am or right after school at 3:05pm.

Principal's Message - 12/04/16

Good evening, this is Mr. Kennedy, principal of Forbush High School. I have a few announcements and updates I would like to share with you this evening.

I would like to begin tonight by reminding everyone that our Theatre and Chorus Departments will be presenting a Winter Madrigal this Friday and Saturday at Yadkinville United Methodist Church. Admission is $20 and includes dinner. The performance begins at 6pm and we look forward to seeing you there.

School Counseling Department
Seniors, if you have been accepted to one or more colleges, please bring your college acceptance letter to the School Counseling office so that we can recognize your accomplishments.

Forbush High School will host a College Planning and Financial Aid Workshop for all Spanish-speaking families on Monday, December 5. The event will be held at 1:30pm and 6:00pm in room 230B. During this workshop, participants will learn to navigate college applications and understand the financial aid process. We hope to see you there!

Clubs and Organizations
Congratulations to Haley Flippin, Wesley Ratledge, and Zach Morris for placing 3rd at the regional level in Livestock Judging for FFA last week.

Congratulations to Anna Kathryn Kilby, Sierra Winters, Jamie Beamguard, Jake Baity, and Mallory Fobes for winning various awards at the District DECA Competition last week.

Congratulations to Brittany Calloway, who won the FHS Christmas Card design contest.

Principal's Message - 11/27/16

Good evening, this is Mr. Kennedy, principal of Forbush High School. I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving Holiday. I have a few announcements and updates I would like to share with you this evening.

I want to begin this evening by reminding everyone that our Forbush High School Angel Tree is up in the office. If you would like to participate, you may visit the office, select your paper ornament, and shop for a friend in need. Bring the unwrapped gift to Mrs. Gentry in the office and be sure the paper ornament is taped securely to your gift. Students who shop will receive 2 hours of community service and all gifts are due December 6.

Clubs and Organizations
I want to wish congratulations to all of the students who were inducted into the National Honor Society and the Beta Club last week. I also want to wish congratulations to our cheerleading squad who finished in first place in their division at the North Carolina Cheerleading Competition last Saturday.

FCA has partnered with Friends Feeding Friends for this year’s holiday food drive. Each first period class will be collecting canned food items and other nonperishable goods to assist those in need this Holiday season. We will have three collection days: November 30, December 7, and December 14. FCA will provide breakfast to the first period class who has the most items turned in after each of the three collection days. Thank you in advance for supporting this great cause.

Principal's Message - 11/20/16

Good evening, this is Mr. Kennedy, principal of Forbush High School. I have a few announcements and updates I would like to share with you this evening.

I want to begin this evening by reminding everyone that there will be no school on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday of this week (November 23-25) in observance of the Thanksgiving Holiday. I hope everyone has the opportunity to rest, relax, and enjoy quality time with friends and family. FCA has partnered with Friends Feeding Friends for this year’s holiday food drive. Each first period class will be collecting canned food items and other nonperishable goods to assist those in need this Holiday season. Please join the FHS Basketball Cheerleaders as we eat pancakes with Santa and Mrs. Claus on December 10 from 8:30-11:00 in the Forbush cafeteria. There will be vendors, crafts for the kids, and a special performance by the cheerleaders. You can also get a picture taken with Santa. The cost is $10 per person and children 2 years and under are free. Reserve your seat today by emailing coach Jamie Elmore at jamie.elmore@yadkin.k12.nc.us.

For HOSA members, all orders for the dining attraction books are due to Mrs. Sloan tomorrow. District competition has been rescheduled for December 10 at West Wilkes High School.

The softball team will have workouts at the field house on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30-4:30.

For football players, there will be a linemen meeting during morning break in Coach Sawyer's room 603G tomorrow for all returning JV and Varsity linemen.

The National Honor Society will be hosting its annual induction ceremony on tomorrow evening (Monday, November 21) at 6:30 in the auditorium. The Beta Club will hold its induction ceremony at 8:00 in the auditorium. There will be a reception for all participants in between both ceremonies beginning at 7:00 in the media center.

Principal's Message - 11/13/16

Good evening, this is Mr. Kennedy, principal of Forbush High School. I have a few announcements and updates I would like to share with you this evening.

Clubs and Organizations
The National Honor Society and Beta Club ceremony will be Monday, November 21. National Honor Society induction will begin at 6:30pm and the Beta Ceremony for new inductees will begin at 8pm. Both ceremonies will be held in the auditorium. There will be a reception in the media center between both ceremonies at 7pm for all inductees.

Any current NHS members interested in becoming an officer in the National Honor Society, please see Mrs. Roberts in 706H to receive an application.

The baseball team is selling BBQ Pork Tenderloins for $25. The tenderloins come in a 5-pound bundle, fully cooked on pickup, and they feed a family of six. The pickup date is Saturday, November 19, from 11am to 2pm at the baseball field.

Principal's Message - 11/06/16

Good evening, this is Mr. Kennedy, principal of Forbush High School. I have a few announcements and updates I would like to share with you this evening.

School Counseling Department
If you are interested in taking spring classes at Surry Community College, please see Ms. Pennix in room 600G. Ms. Pennix is available on Tuesdays from 9am to 2pm.

College Application Day is November 17 and the deadline to sign up for this event is November 10. If you are a senior planning to go to college but you have not filled out a college application yet, please sign up for this event. Please visit the counseling department to sign up.

Clubs and Organizations
I want to congratulate our men’s and women’s cross country teams on an excellent season this year. Junior Dakota Mendenhall finished second in the 2A boys championship and the team finished 10th in the state. Junior Anna Kathryn Kilby won the 2A girls state championship and the team finished 3rd in the state. Congratulations to State Champion Anna Kathryn Kilby, to coach Beuter, and to all of our cross country runners!

Veterans Day Holiday - Friday, November 11
I have one calendar reminder this evening: There will be no school for students or staff on Friday, November 11 in observance of Veterans Day.

Thoughts and Prayers for the Baker Family
Unfortunately, I must end tonight’s message on a somber note. As many of you know by now, Forbush High School senior Marshall Baker passed away just a few days ago after a long battle with cancer. The entire Forbush community is greatly saddened by this loss and we will all miss Marshall very much. As heartbreaking as this time is right now, we also rejoice knowing that Marshall is in a better place, free from the pains of this world.

I want to personally thank all of the people who reached out to the Baker family and to our school to offer their condolences. I am touched by the heartfelt manner in which the Forbush community rallied support and prayers around the Baker family, as well as for the students and staff here at Forbush. Thank you for helping unite our community in the midst of such overwhelming pain and sadness. Please continue to keep the Baker family, as well as the students and staff at Forbush, in your thoughts and prayers.

Principal's Message - 10/30/16

Good evening, this is Mr. Kennedy, principal of Forbush High School. I hope everyone had a great weekend. I have a few announcements and updates I would like to share with you this evening.

I want to begin this evening by reminding everyone that this Tuesday, November 1, will be “Marshall Baker Day.” Please wear your t-shirts! If you would like to purchase a t-shirt, see SeƱora Helton in 703H. Also, stop by the Forbush News Team table during lunch in the lobby of A building to send a personal recorded message to Marshall. We are hosting a Powder Puff football game on Tuesday night, beginning at 7pm. Admission is $3 and all proceeds will donated to Marshall Baker and his family.

Congratulations to the volleyball team on a successful season. The Falcons finished with a 17-8 record this year, finishing second in the conference and making it to the second round of the state playoffs. Congratulations also goes out to our men’s soccer team, who finished the regular season undefeated. The playoff brackets have not yet been released but the Falcons will play their first match at home this week.

Clubs and Organizations
There will be a mandatory parent meeting tomorrow (Monday, October 31) in the gym at 6:00 for anyone trying out for men's basketball. Tryouts will start immediately following the meeting and will be held next through Wednesday. You must have an updated physical to participate.

The Bush Band is having their annual mattress sale on Saturday, November 5, in the lobby of A building from 10am to 5pm. This money helps to replace instruments, music stands, and several other items in the classrooms. Please contact Mr. Brusseau if you have any questions.

Any student interested in becoming a member of the Student Leadership Team, please e-mail Coach James for an application. All applications are due tomorrow (Monday, October 31).

The deadline for NHS applications is this Friday, November 4. Please turn in your completed envelope to Mrs. Roberts or Mr. Hauser by the end of the school day on Friday.

Additional Reminders
If you are interested in taking Surry Community College classes for the spring semester, please see Ms. Pennix in 600G on Tuesdays from 9am to 2pm. Most classes fill quickly so do not wait!

Seniors, if you are NOT completing your senior ad online, the money and ad content is due to Ms. McCollum by this Tuesday, November 1. Please see the FHS website for more information and forms.

Principal's Message - 10/23/16

Good evening, this is Mr. Kennedy, principal of Forbush High School. I hope everyone had a great weekend. I have a few announcements and updates I would like to share with you this evening.

We have reached the end of the first academic quarter of this school year. As a reminder, there will be no school for students tomorrow, October 24, or Tuesday, October 25. Students will return to classes on Wednesday, October 26. Parents, if you would like to set up a conference with any of your child’s teachers, please feel free to email them or call the school. If you have not already done so, I encourage all parents to reach out to your child’s teacher if you would like to discuss their academic progress. Report cards will go home with students this week.

Clubs and Organizations
The Forbush JROTC will sponsor ASVAB testing on the 9th of November at 8am in the Media Center. The test is open to all 10th through 12th grade students interested in joining the military BUT you must sign up with either Colonel Weatherstone or Master Sergeant Hayes in Room 130A. By taking the test you ARE NOT obligated in any way to join the military. See Colonel Weatherstone or Master Sergeant Hayes for details.

Any student interested in joining HOSA, please see Mrs. Sloan for a membership form. The cost to join is $20.00 and the deadline is this Friday, October 28.

Any student interested in becoming a member of the Student Leadership Team, please email or see Coach James (Room 606G) to receive an application. All applications are due October 31.

Anyone interested in wrestling this year, please plan to stay after school on Wednesday, October 26, to participate in the Hydration test. We will meet in the training room immediately after school and will finish by 3:45pm. Please drink extra fluids so you can pass the hydration test on Wednesday. See Coach Farmer in room 803J for more details.

Congratulations to Mallory Fobes for finishing 4th in last week’s Women's Golf Regional. Fobes will be competing this week in the State Finals.

Reminder for Seniors
The senior meeting with Jostens concerning graduation items that was originally scheduled for October 26 has been RESCHEDULED for November 1 at 9:45 am. Orders will be collected November 4.

Principal's Message - 10/16/16

Good evening, this is Mr. Kennedy, principal of Forbush High School.

I want to begin this evening by congratulating Laurie Roberts and our Chorus students for an excellent concert last week. We have some talented singers here at FHS, great job! Thank you for your hard work and for representing Forbush so well.

Our Forbush band, the Band Boosters, and director Matthew Brusseau did a great job organizing yesterday’s annual Festival of Bands. Thank you to everyone who helped make this event a great success once again this year. Our Forbush Band will perform their Fall Concert tomorrow evening, October 17, beginning at 7pm in the auditorium. We hope to see you there!

End of the First Quarter
The end of the first academic quarter is coming up this week. There will be no school for students from Friday, October 21, through Tuesday, October 25 for fall break. Students will return to school on Wednesday, October 26. Parents, if you would like to set up a conference with any of your child’s teachers, please feel free to email them or call the school. Clubs and Organizations
Our JROTC will host their Fall Promotion Ceremony and Parent Interest meeting on Tuesday, October 18. This event will begin at 6pm and we look forward to seeing you there.

​FCCLA wants to say THANK YOU to everyone for all of the support during the donation drive for the Yadkin County Animal Shelter. We purchased​ 925 pounds of ​pet food, 11 bags of cat litter, 70 packages of treats, and over a 100 toys!

Congratulations to Mallory Fobes for being named the 2016 Western Piedmont Conference Player of the Year in Women's Golf. Mallory also won the Conference Tournament by 12 strokes and will compete in the West Regional Tuesday morning.

Announcements and Reminders
The school district will host a Human Growth and Development Parent Night on Thursday, October 20 at Yadkinville Elementary School. The informational meeting for parents with students in grades 8 and 9 will begin at 7pm. All parents with 9th grade students are invited to attend.

Students, if you are interested in participating in the Powder Puff Football Game, please sign up with one of the football coaches by October 20. Seniors, see coach Hoots, Juniors, see coach Tuck, Sophomores, see coach Lee, and freshmen, see coach Sikes. The Power Puff Football Game is scheduled for November 1 at 7pm and the deadline to sign up is October 20.

Seniors, please turn in community service hours to Ms. Elmore in 204B by October 28. This is necessary for certain scholarships and awards.

Principal's Message - 10/09/16

Good evening, this is Mr. Kennedy, principal of Forbush High School.

I want to begin this evening by thanking everyone who helped make our Homecoming football game last Thursday night a great success. It was a beautiful night for football and the Homecoming court, members of the band, the JROTC, and the fans did a great job. Congratulations to the team and coaches on another hard-fought victory.

School Counseling Department
Attention all 10th and 11th grade students. Sign-ups for PSAT will run through this Wednesday, October 12, and the cost is $15. Please see Mrs. Monroe in guidance to sign up. There are a limited number of spots available so please sign up as soon as possible. The PSAT will take place on October 19 during school.

The North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics is recruiting sophomores interested in applying. There will be an informational meeting held on October 18 in the FHS Media Center. Parents are invited to attend and the deadline for students to sign up is October 13. Sign up with Mrs. Monroe in the school counselor office or see Ms. Mitze if you have any questions.

Clubs and Organizations
FCCLA is sponsoring a Donation Drive for the Yadkin County Animal Shelter that will end on Thursday, October 13. FCCLA members will be collecting money during first period to buy food and supplies for the Yadkin County Animal Shelter. The first period class that raises the most money will receive Bojangles' Biscuits during first period on Friday, October 14. Thank you in advance for your support of our local Animal Shelter.

Anyone interested in running for an officer position with the Beta Club, please see Mrs. Davis in 407D tomorrow (Monday October 10).

DECA will meet after school in Mrs. Pardue's room (303C) on Wednesday, October 12. All members, please make plans to attend.

Any student-athlete who would like to join the swim team this year, please come by room 202B and see coach Mark Beuter for more information. Forms and a sign-up sheet will be on the window by his front door.

Additional Reminders
FHS will host our Fall Chorus Concert on Tuesday, October 11, beginning at 7pm in the auditorium. I encourage everyone to attend and support our FHS Chorus program.

On Saturday, October 15, FHS will host our annual Festival of Marching Bands in the Forbush stadium beginning at 10am. All students and community members are invited to attend and hear some amazing bands from across our region.

Principal's Message - 10/02/16

Good evening, this is Mr. Kennedy, principal of Forbush High School. I hope everyone had a great weekend. I have a few announcements and updates I would like to share with you this evening.

I want to begin this evening by reminding our students that next week is Spirit Week as we prepare for our Homecoming football game on Friday. A list of the different themes for each day has been posted on our Twitter account and Facebook page, so please check us out on Twitter or Facebook at “ForbushHS” for more information.

I also want to remind everyone that this Wednesday, October 5, is an early dismissal day. All students will be dismissed at noon on Wednesday.

School Counseling Department
Attention all 10th and 11th grade students. Sign-ups for PSAT will run through this Friday, October 7th, and the cost is $15. Please see Mrs. Monroe in guidance to sign up. There are a limited number of spots available so please sign up as soon as possible. The PSAT will take place on October 19th during school.

Seniors, mark your calendars for a Financial Aid Workshop this Tuesday, October 4, at 6pm in the auditorium. If you are planning to attend college next year and need money to help pay for college, this is the perfect workshop for you to attend. Clubs and Organizations
Beta Club members, please remember to turn in your Beta Club Agreement by tomorrow in order to remain in Beta Club. You can get a form from Mrs. Davis or print one off of the Beta Club website.

HOSA will meet tomorrow right after school in Mrs. Sloan’s room. If you are interested in district competition please be sure to attend this meeting.

The Drama Club will meet on Thursday, October 6th, from 3:10-4:00. If you are involved in the Dinner Theatre Madrigal in December please make arrangements to attend.

Basketball Cheerleading tryouts begin tomorrow at 3:30 in the courtyard. If you are interested in trying out and have not received the paperwork, please see Ms. Elmore in room 204B.

Additional Reminders
Tickets for the Homecoming dance can be purchased in room 703H (from SeƱora Helton) thru this Wednesday, October 5th. Only students who purchase tickets will be able to attend.

On Friday, October 7, the graduating classes of Forbush High School will compete for campus supremacy. The Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, and Senior classes will square off in a series of tournament style competitions. The winner of each competition will earn points for their class, and when the competitions have ended, we will crown a champion of the Clash at the Bash. Your class will be rewarded with biscuits for breakfast on October 14 and will reign supreme. Sign up for the various competitions next week.

Principal's Message - 9/25/16

Good evening, this is Mr. Kennedy, principal of Forbush High School. I hope everyone had a great weekend. I have a few announcements and updates I would like to share with you this evening.

I want to begin this evening by reminding everyone that there will be no school for students tomorrow (Monday, September 26). Tomorrow will be a teacher workday and students will return to school on Tuesday.

I also want to remind our parents and students about the importance of sportsmanship at all Forbush athletic events. I was recently made aware of an incident involving a Forbush parent or fan who directed racist and profane comments toward a game official at a recent sporting event. It is important for all students, parents, and fans to understand that this sort of behavior will not be tolerated. Fans caught acting in such a manner will be ejected and banned from all Forbush events, home and away. Please help us maintain our reputation as an institution of character and class.

School Counseling Department
Attention all 10th and 11th grade students. Sign-ups for PSAT will run through October 7th and the cost is $15. Please see Mrs. Monroe in guidance to sign up. There are a limited number of spots available so please sign up as soon as possible. The PSAT will take place on October 19th during school.

Seniors, mark your calendars for a Financial Aid Workshop on October 4 at 6pm in the auditorium. If you are planning to attend college next year and need money to help pay for college, this is the perfect workshop for you to attend. Clubs and Organizations
Congratulations to Alyssa Goforth who recently competed at the Mountain State Fair in the Dairy Handlers Career Development Event. Alyssa won 1st place in the Northwest region and placed in the top of the state. Congratulations Alyssa!

Additional reminders
Yearbooks will go on sale starting this week in the lobby of A building during lunches. Yearbooks will be $50 for this week only and the price will go up after next week. You may put down a deposit of $25 to reserve your copy.

Our Fall Blood Drive will be this Friday, September 30th. Our blood drive will be held in honor of Marshall Baker. Students 16 years of age will need a parental consent to donate. All donors will need a photo ID.  Students will be available during lunches for you to sign up to donate or you may see Mrs. Sloan in room 520E.
