Principal's Message - 2/26/17

Good evening, this is Mr. Kennedy, principal of Forbush High School. I have a few announcements and updates I would like to share with you this evening.

No School Tomorrow
I want to begin this evening by reminding everyone that there will be no school tomorrow (Monday, February 27). All students will return to school on Tuesday, February 28.

School Counseling Department
Seniors, if you are planning to go to college and need help paying for it, complete the FAFSA as soon as possible! If you need help with the FAFSA, contact Mrs. Pennix to get free help on March 6. Seniors, please check your email for more information about the March 6 Financial Aid assistance and contact information for Mrs. Pennix. You can also explore Ms. Mitze’s web site, which includes a wealth of information about scholarships and financial aid.


The national average for FAFSA completion is 50% and Forbush High School seniors are at 26% right now. Let’s make it our goal to reach the national average; seniors, fill out the FAFSA today!

Clubs and Organizations
Parents, the Skills USA registration deadline is March 1. If you want your child to be in Skills they must register by the deadline. All students competing at the Skills Regional Competition need to be at school by 7:15am tomorrow (Monday, February 27) behind Mr. Senter's shop. Please bring your safety glasses, your resume, and proper attire.

Any Beta member who would like to volunteer for the Lucky Bingo Fundraiser at the Yadkin Moose Lodge on March 17, please see Rachel Davis in 407D to sign up. You must sign up by March 6. Also, please remember your Beta points are due April 1 in order to remain a member. Check the website for the bylaws or see Mrs. Davis if you have any questions.

Principal's Message - 2/19/17

Good evening, this is Mr. Kennedy, principal of Forbush High School. I have a few announcements and updates I would like to share with you this evening.

Winter Athletics
With the winter sports season winding down, I want to congratulate several of our student-athletes. Two of our wrestlers competed at the State Wrestling tournament this past week. Edwin Alvarenga finished third in the 120-pound classification and Caleb Price finished fourth in the 113-pound classification.

Congratulations to our men’s and women’s swimming team on another great season. Several athletes competed in the state championship, including Jamie Beamguard, Suzie Beamguard, Sarah Hayden, Gina Myers, Sierra Winters, and Samantha Wooten. Also, the women’s swimming team won their third straight conference title this year.

Congratulations to our competition cheerleading team for finishing second in the UCA World Championships and for reaching the semifinals in Nationals.

For all of our FHS student athletes, we are proud of your accomplishments and for representing Forbush High School so well!

No School Feb 24 & 27
Students and parents, this is a reminder that there will be no school for students on Friday, February 24, or Monday, February 27. Students will return to school on Tuesday, February 28.

Clubs and Organizations
The JROTC Spring Promotion Ceremony is scheduled for this Tuesday, February 21. This event will begin at 6pm in the auditorium.

Next week is FCCLA week, so please wear red to support FCCLA. Also, FCCLA has begun a recycling program at Forbush. Students, please put your empty cans and bottles in the recycling bags in each classroom. FCCLA members will collect your recycling bags during 4th period on Fridays for the remainder of the semester.

Skills USA will hold a parent meeting on Tuesday, February 21, at 6pm in room 519E for anyone competing in Regionals. Students and parents, please plan to attend. Also, all strawberry orders are due on Thursday, February 23.

Athletics This Week
One final announcement this evening: Our girls basketball team will play at home in the first round of the state playoffs on Tuesday. Come on out and support our Lady Falcons on Tuesday evening.

Principal's Message - 2/12/17

Good evening, this is Mr. Kennedy, principal of Forbush High School. I have a few announcements and updates I would like to share with you this evening.

Student-Athlete Accomplishments
I want to begin tonight by celebrating some of our student-athletes. The 2A Mid-West Wrestling Regional was held yesterday and two of our wrestlers, Edwin Alvarenga and Caleb Price, advanced to the State Finals scheduled for later this week. Jonathan Lopez, Chase Farmer, Cody Farmer, and Carson Pruitt also competed at Regionals, so congratulations to all of our Forbush wrestlers and good luck to Edwin and Caleb at States this week.

Our Indoor Track team competed at the State Championships last Friday and performed very well. Dakota Mendenhall, Madisun Shore, Caroline Owens, Monserrat Andrade, and Mackenzie Fulk posted great performances. Anna Kathryn Kilby took home the state title in the 3,200 meter run, her second state championship of the school year. AK also won the 2A Cross Country state title earlier in the fall and is the first student-athlete in the history of Forbush High School to win more than one individual state title in any sport. Congrats to her and the entire Indoor Track team!

Spring Registration
9th, 10th, and 11th grade students received their registration forms this past week. Students, please complete as much as possible on these forms before your individual meeting with your school counselor. Meetings for Juniors and Sophomores begin tomorrow, while meetings for Freshmen will begin March 6. Students, please add Honors Physics as another science course option on your registration form. Honors Physics is available for sophomores and juniors who have completed Honors Math III.

Home Athletic Events
The semifinals and finals of the WPAC basketball conference tournament will be played at Forbush this week. The men’s team travels to Surry Central tomorrow night for the first round of the tournament. The women’s team will play at home in the semifinals on Thursday at 6pm. The men’s and women’s championship games are scheduled for Friday night.

Principal's Message - 2/5/17

Good evening, this is Mr. Kennedy, principal of Forbush High School. I have a few announcements and updates I would like to share with you this evening.

8th Grade Open House
I want to begin this evening by reminding all parents of rising freshmen that our 8th Grade Open House is scheduled for tomorrow night, Monday, February 6. This event will begin at 5:30pm in the auditorium with important information for rising 9th grade students and parents. Following this meeting, students and parents will have the opportunity to tour the FHS campus, meet teachers and staff, and learn more about all the programs and activities we have to offer at Forbush High School. We look forward to meeting our rising 9th grade students tomorrow evening.

Clubs and Organizations
Yearbooks will be on sale for the final time this week, February 6-10. Yearbooks are $60 and you can also pay the remaining balance on a book over the course of this week. There are a limited number of books left, so reserve your copy next week!

HOSA would like to thank all who participated in the Band-Aids for Brenner’s initiative. We were able to collect 209 boxes of Band-Aids for Brenner’s. Our overall winner was Mrs. Saddler classes with 62 boxes of Band Aids. Coming in a close 2nd was Mr. Brusseau with 53 boxes.

Additional Announcements and Reminders
I want to remind everyone about a few calendar changes approved by the Yadkin County Board of Education. On February 24 there will be no school for students. February 28 is now a student day. Also, May 8 is now a student day (serving as a snow make-up day).

Athletic Events
Tuesday: Basketball vs. Surry Central (home)
Also, the swim team competes in the State Finals on Thursday in Cary, the cheerleading squad competes in a national competition in Florida beginning Thursday, the indoor track team competes in the state finals on Friday in Winston-Salem, and the wrestling team competes in regionals on Saturday at West Wilkes High School.
