Principal's Message - 2/25/18

Good evening, this is Mr. Kennedy, principal of Forbush High School. I have a few announcements and updates I would like to share with you this evening.

Women's Basketball
I want to begin this evening by congratulating our women’s basketball team on a great season. Though our Falcons lost last night to Ledford, they won 23 games this year, made it to the 3rd round of the state playoffs, and won a share of the conference title. Congratulations on a great season!

ACT on Tuesday, February 27
This Tuesday, February 27, all juniors will be taking the ACT. All students will report to their homeroom teacher at the beginning of the day, and freshmen, sophomores, and seniors will take part in various “college and career” readiness activities. Seniors can also take college visits on this day; if a senior takes a college visit, please bring back a letter or note from the college and the absence will be excused.

Early Dismissal on Wednesday, February 28
Wednesday, February 28 will be an early dismissal day. Students will be dismissed at noon on this day.

Clubs and Organizations
Forbush HOSA collected over 2,500 band aids to donate to children at Brenner’s Children’s Hospital. Mr. McCarn’s first period class collected the most band aids. Thank you to all students who participated!

Principal's Message - 2/18/18

Good evening, this is Mr. Kennedy, principal of Forbush High School. I have a few announcements and updates I would like to share with you this evening.

Congratulations
I want to begin this evening my congratulating one of our young writers. Forbush Junior Alma Pelagio’s essay entry into the YVLA Young Authors competition has been chosen as a state finalist by the North Carolina Reading Association. She will now go on to compete at the state level in March. Congratulations Alma and best of luck at the state competition!

Congratulations to our Forbush wrestlers for their performances in the Regional tournament last weekend. Eli Thomas finished fourth in the regional and qualified for the State tournament that took place this past week. Hayden Price and Jovany Pozo finished one win away from qualifying for States, while Worth Martin, Armando Velasquez, and Chase Farmer competed in the Regional tournament as well.

Spring Chorus Concert
Our Spring Chorus Concert is scheduled for this Thursday, February 22. This event will begin at 7pm in the Forbush Auditorium and we hope to see you there!

Clubs and Organizations
If you are interested in placing an order for strawberries, the deadline is this Wednesday, February 21. See Mr. Senter in room 519-E for more details.

If you are a senior who is a member of the Junior Civitan club, this is a reminder that scholarship applications are due this Thursday, February 22.

Principal's Message - 2/11/18

Good evening, this is Mr. Kennedy, principal of Forbush High School. I have a few announcements and updates I would like to share with you this evening.

Indoor Track State Championships
Congratulations to our Indoor Track athletes for their performances at last Friday’s 1A/2A State Championships. Dakota Mendenhall brought home a state title in the 1,600, while Anna-Kathryn Kilby won a state title in the 3,200. Mallory Martin finished 7th in the 55-meter hurdles, while Monserat Andrade finished 10th. Madisun Shore finished 5th in the 1,000-meters, while Mackenzie Fulk finished 13th in the long jump and 6th in the triple jump.

Swimming State Championships
Congratulations to our swimmers for their accomplishments at the State Championships last Friday. The team of Gina Myers, Suzie Beamguard, Emily Post, and Lauren Holowiti finished 22nd in the state in the 200 Medley Relay and 20th in the 400 Freestyle Relay. Gina Myers also finished 18th in the 200 Freestyle and 14th in the 500 Freestyle.

8th Grade Parent Night
Our annual 8th Grade Parent Night is scheduled for tomorrow, Monday, February 12. This will be a floating event from 5:00 to 6:30. Rising freshmen and their parents are welcome to visit during that time frame and meet our teachers, learn more about our course and program offerings, and become more familiar with our campus.

ACT Prep for Juniors
Juniors, be sure to check your email for information about test prep materials for the ACT. Several websites have been shared with you that can help you raise your ACT score, which all juniors will take on February 27.

In preparation for the ACT, juniors are invited to sign up for a free, one-day ACT Boot Camp here at Forbush on Tuesday, February 20. This session will be led by a professional test prep trainer from MasteryPrep. Lunch and snacks will be provided, but we have a limited number of spots, so sign up this week in the office before it is too late!

Forbush Cheer
The Forbush Cheerleading squad will host a Cheer Showcase on Saturday, February 17. This event will be held in the Forbush gym from 9am to noon. Congratulations and best of luck to our cheerleaders for qualifying for Nationals in March.

Forbush Hunter Safety
The Forbush Hunter Safety team will hold a scrimmage on Saturday, February 17. This scrimmage will begin at 8am on the range for anyone who would like to attend.

Principal's Message - 2/4/18

Good evening, this is Mr. Kennedy, principal of Forbush High School. I have a few announcements and updates I would like to share with you this evening.

8th Grade Parent Night Rescheduled
As you just heard from Dr. Martin's message, Yadkin County Schools will operate on a three-hour delay tomorrow with the option to close if necessary. Because of the abbreviated schedule, we will be unable to host our 8th grade tours tomorrow. Therefore, we are going to reschedule our 8th grade tours and our 8th grade Parent Night for Monday, February 12. Once again, tomorrow evening's 8th grade Parent Night has been postponed and will be rescheduled for Monday, February 12, from 5:00pm to 6:30pm.

Forbush JROTC
Congratulations to our Forbush JROTC cadets who recently competed in a rifle competition at Fred T. Foard High School. All three Forbush teams finished in the top 16 out of 63. The team of Brady Carter, Mason Hester, Chris Gieger, and John Collins finished in first place overall. Brady Carter was also the competition’s top overall firer out of 250 competitors, while Mason Hester finished second in the kneeling position and Clay Spann finished third in the new firer prone position. Congratulations cadets!

Forbush Wrestling
Congratulations to our Wrestling team for their strong finish in the WPAC Wrestling Tournament last weekend. Eli Thomas, Hayden Price, Chase Farmer, and Worth Martin all finished 2nd in their respective weight classes, while Armando Velasquez finished 4th. Regionals begin this weekend; best of luck to our Forbush wrestlers!

School Counseling Office
All juniors and their parents are invited to a Junior Parent Info Session on Thursday, February 8. This event will be held in B building beginning at 6pm. This is your chance to learn more about the college application process, ACT & SAT testing, financial aid, resume writing, recommendations, and more. We hope to see you there!

Clubs and Organizations
HOSA’s Band-Aids for Brenner’s drive will begin next week. The first period class that donates the most new, unopened boxes of character Band-Aids will win a free breakfast. This event will run through February 16.

FCCLA will be selling Valentine Cupcake Grams next week during lunches. Cupcakes are $1 and will be delivered on February 14 during 4th period.

The deadline to register for the Skills USA Regional Competition is this Wednesday, February 7. See Mr. Senter in 519E to register by Wednesday.

Yearbooks will be on sale next week during all lunches. Yearbooks are $70 and you can reserve your copy by putting down a $25 deposit.
