Principal's Message - 8/19/18

Good evening, this is Mr. Kennedy, principal of Forbush High School. I have a few announcements and updates I would like to share with you this evening.

First Day for Students
I want to thank everyone who visited us last week for Open House and Freshmen Orientation. As a reminder, the first day for students is tomorrow, Monday, August 20. All students will report to their homeroom class to start the school day tomorrow. Homeroom teachers will provide students with a variety of information to start the school year.

Chromebook Paperwork
Students and parents, if you have not completed the paperwork for your chromebook, we are offering three makeup days this week. Parents may come by the school to complete chromebook paperwork tomorrow, Monday, August 20, from 9am to 11am and from 1pm to 3pm. Also, you may come by on Tuesday, August 21, from 4pm to 6:30pm, or on Thursday, August 23, from 4pm to 6:30pm. Please check in at the main office, then go to the media center to complete the paperwork. As a reminder, chromebook paperwork has to be signed by a parent or guardian.

Schedule Change Requests
Students, if you have a question regarding your schedule or if you would like to request a change to one of your classes, please complete a “schedule change request” form in the Counseling office. Only schedule change requests related to legitimate extenuating circumstances will be considered, and all schedule change requests must be submitted by Wednesday.

Campus Safety
As superintendent Dr. Martin mentioned in his phone message last Thursday, we will have some new security measures in place tomorrow as students return to school. A security monitor will be on duty throughout the school day to help improve campus security and keep our students safe. When the school day begins, the front gate at the stoplight will be locked and visitors will be asked to check in with the security monitor at the main visitors’ entrance. Additionally, our security monitors will help observe the parking lot to help maintain student safety and security. While we know this may take a little to get used to, we believe these new measures will help keep our campus even safer for our students, staff, and guests.

Home Athletic Events
Monday: Volleyball v. North Iredell and Women’s Tennis v South Stokes
Tuesday: Men’s Soccer v. RJ Reynolds
Thursday: Volleyball v. West Wilkes and JV Football v. North Iredell

That is all for this evening. As always, if you ever have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call or email me anytime. Also, please be sure to check out our web site and follow us on Twitter and Facebook for daily updates. Thank you for your time this evening, goodnight.

Principal's Message - 8/12/18

Good evening, this is Mr. Kennedy, principal of Forbush High School. I have a few announcements and updates I would like to share with you this evening.

Campus Renovations and Updates
I want to begin this evening by welcoming everyone back to another school year! Our staff has been working hard to get our campus ready for our students and their families this week. As you visit campus this week for Open House, Freshmen Orientation, or athletic events, you will probably notice a few changes. Our courtyard has been completely renovated. While this project is not quite finished, it is getting close and I think our students and community will love the new look of our courtyard. A huge THANK YOU goes out to Mr. Hauser for all of his hard work on our courtyard renovation project this year!

In addition to the courtyard, we have also added more directional signs around campus to make it easier to locate different buildings. The student parking lot has been re-lined and the curbs, poles, and gates have been repainted. Many areas in the football stadium have been repainted, beds and planters around campus have been cleaned, and new mulch has been spread across all parts of the campus. All in all, our campus is looking great and we are excited to welcome our students and their families this week!

Open House
Looking ahead to this week, I wanted to remind everyone that we will be offering an Open House for our students and their families on two days this year. Our campus will be open on Wednesday, August 15, from 9am to 12pm, and on Thursday, August 16, from 1pm to 7pm. During these times, students should first report to their Homeroom teacher to pick up their class schedule and pay their $50 school fee. After students have received their schedule, they may meet with their teachers around campus and complete Chromebook rental paperwork in the media center. Please note, parents must be present in order for students to complete their Chromebook rental paperwork.

Freshmen Orientation
For our rising 9th grade students, Freshmen Orientation is scheduled for Wednesday, August 15 and will begin at 1pm in the gymnasium.

First Day of School
The first day of school for all students will be Monday, August 20. Students will report to their homeroom teacher to start the school day.

That is all for this evening. As always, if you ever have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call or email me anytime. Also, please be sure to check out our web site and follow us on Twitter and Facebook for daily updates. Thank you for your time this evening, goodnight.

Congratulations
I want to begin by congratulating our Hunter Safety team and our Cheerleading team for their recent accomplishments. The Forbush Hunter Safety team recently finished third in the national hunter safety competition in Pennsylvania. The Cheerleading team finished first among teams from North Carolina and Georgia at their recent camp at Appalachian State University. Congratulations to both of these organizations!

Our campus will be open on Wednesday, August 15, from 9am to 12pm, and on Thursday, August 16, from 1pm to 7pm. Please note, parents must be present in order for students to complete their Chromebook rental paperwork.

Freshmen Orientation
For our rising 9th grade students, Freshmen Orientation is scheduled for Wednesday, August 15 and will begin at 1pm in the gymnasium. Once again, Freshmen Orientation will begin at 1pm in the gymnasium on Wednesday, August 15.

End of Year Parent Survey
I want to close this evening by thanking everyone who completed our end of year parent survey last spring. I was able to gather a lot of valuable information in that survey and I want to touch on a few topics this evening.

I want to reiterate that the safety and well-being of our students continues to be a top priority for our staff. We are putting some logistical and procedural changes in place this year in order to ensure student safety while also maintaining an orderly campus that emphasizes consistent student discipline practices. We will also be focusing on two-way communication this year, with an emphasis on encouraging staff and parents to communicate more regularly in order to provide assistance for students are struggling academically or behaviorally.

These are just a few of the areas in which we will be focusing this year. As always, I encourage parents and family members to contact me any time if you ever have any questions, comments, concerns, or suggestions. I am proud to be your principal and I am looking forward to another great school year at Forbush High School.
