Principal's Message - 8/25/19

Good evening, this is Dr. Kennedy, principal of Forbush High School. I hope everyone has had a relaxing weekend. I have a few announcements and updates I would like to share with you this evening.

Dismissal Procedures
Since we have just started a new school year, I want to remind our parents and students about a couple procedures related to dismissal at the end of the school day.

First, due to increased traffic for our car riders this year, we are asking all car riders to stand between the walkway outside of E-Building and the walkway outside of H-Building when being picked up in the afternoon. We are asking that parents who are picking up their children drive all the way down to the walkway in front of H instead of picking up students at the rock near the field house. Driving all the way down this side road in front of B and H buildings will help keep traffic from getting back up on Falcon Road, thereby making dismissal safer for all students and parents.

Second, I want to remind all parents and students that bus riders who are getting off at a different stop must provide a signed parent note to the office that morning. Office staff will verify the note and return it to the student to give to the bus driver. Thank you in advance for your attention to these procedures.

SCC College Day
Juniors and seniors, you are invited to sign up for the SCC College Day, scheduled for September 10 from 8:15 to 10:45. See Mrs. Klimczyk in the office for more information. The deadline to sign up is Friday, September 6.

PSAT
Juniors or seniors who wish to take the PSAT can sign-up in the office no later than Friday, September 6. The test will be given on Saturday, October 19 at 8am here at Forbush High School and the cost is $17. See Mrs. Dinkins to sign up.

Clubs and Organizations
There will be a HOSA Interest Meeting this Wednesday, August 28 at 7:40am in room 520E. All HOSA Officers should meet at 7:15am.

There will be a Skills Club Interest Meeting this Wednesday, August 28 at 7:30am or 3:15pm in room 519E. If you are interested in a hands-on career, please attend the meeting on Wednesday at either 7:30am or 3:15pm.

We will resume our normal bell schedule beginning Friday, August 16.

Chromebook Lease Paperwork

Reminder Regarding School Safety Protocols
In the wake of the terrible shootings across our country last week, I wanted to close my message by reminding everyone of several of the safety protocols we have in place at Forbush High School. The safety of your children is our number one priority at Forbush. Our staff has been trained regarding the proper procedures to follow in different emergency situations and we will complete several safety drills over the course of the school year. We have a full time deputy on staff, officer Corey Carter, and we are lucky to have him on our campus every day. We also have a security monitor stationed at the main entrance to our school. All visitors are asked to check in with the security monitor during the school day before entering campus. This allows our school administration to better protect our campus during the student day. We have a large, open campus that covers many acres, so no safety plan is 100% foolproof. With that said, student safety is our number one priority and we continue to reflect on ways to make our campus safer and more secure.

That is all for this evening. If you ever have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me anytime. As a reminder, please be sure to follow us on Twitter, Facebook, and now on Instagram, to stay up-to-date on everything happening at Forbush High School. Thank you for your time this evening, goodnight.
