Principal's Message - 2/24/19

Good evening, this is Mr. Kennedy, principal of Forbush High School. I have a few announcements and updates I would like to share with you this evening.

Student Accomplishments
I would like to congratulate our women’s basketball team on a successful regular season. The Falcons won the conference regular season and tournament championships, finishing 12-0 in league play. The Falcons currently have a record of 23-3 and will host a first round playoff game next week. Be sure to follow us on Twitter or Facebook for more information.

I also want to congratulate junior Nicole Scott on our women’s basketball team. Nicole hit the 1,000-career points mark in a recent game at Atkins High School. Congratulations to Nicole and our entire women’s basketball program.

ACT Rescheduled
Juniors, because of last Wednesday’s delayed start to the school day, the ACT was cancelled. The ACT will now be given to all juniors on Tuesday, March 12.

Clubs and Organizations
Students and parents, all orders for Strawberries are due tomorrow. Please turn in any strawberry order forms to the office before the end of the school day tomorrow.

Students, if you are competing in tomorrow’s Skills Competition, your medical travel form must be turned in to Mr. Senter by 7:30am tomorrow morning. The bus will be leaving tomorrow morning at 7:30am, so do not be late!

Principal's Message - 2/17/19

Good evening, this is Mr. Kennedy, principal of Forbush High School. I have a few announcements and updates I would like to share with you this evening.

Student Accomplishments
Congratulations to our student-athletes who competed at the Indoor Track State Championships last weekend. Nate Warden, Laura Wyrick, and Mallory Martin all competed in events at the State Championships. Also, congratulations to our wrestlers who competed in Regionals last weekend. Eli Thomas finished second in his weight class while Edwin Pozo finished fourth, so both Eli and Edwin qualified for the State Wrestling Tournament. Results from the State Tournament will be shared in next week’s phone message.

Congratulations to our boys and girls JV basketball teams on their successful seasons. Our girls JV team finished atop the conference with a 4-0 conference record and 11-5 overall. Our boys team also finished atop the conference, ending the season with a 12-0 conference record and 21-2 record overall. Congratulations to our JV boys and girls basketball teams!

ACT Testing This Wednesday
This Wednesday, February 20, all Juniors will be taking the ACT. All Juniors are reminded to report to their testing location as soon as the bell rings to start the school day. Juniors, don’t forget, ACT information and prep activities can be found on our school website under the “Students” tab. For all students not taking the ACT, Wednesday, February 20 will be a regular school day with a normal bell schedule.

Skills USA
There will be a meeting for all members of Skills USA who plan to attend Regional Competition this Wednesday, February 20 at 7:40am in room 519-E. If you plan to attend Regionals, you must attend this meeting. Please see Mr. Senter if you have any questions.

Parents and students, this is the last week to pre-order strawberries. If you would like to place an order for strawberries, please contact Mr. Senter or speak with a member of Skills USA.

Interested in a Career in Law Enforcement?
Students, are you interested in a career in law enforcement? If so, Officer J.D. Barnes with the Winston-Salem Police Department will be on campus this Thursday, February 21 from 9:30 to 11:30 in 603-G and in the A-Building Lobby during all lunches. Sign up in Student Services if you would like to attend.

Basketball Conference Tournaments
The semifinals and finals of the men’s and women’s basketball conference tournaments will be held at Forbush High School this week. Games will be held on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Please check our Facebook or Twitter site for information about the schedule for this week’s conference tournament games.

Principal's Message - 2/10/19

Good evening, this is Mr. Kennedy, principal of Forbush High School. I have a few announcements and updates I would like to share with you this evening.

Student Accomplishments and Accolades
Congratulations to our men’s and women’s swim teams on their recent performance at Regionals. The women’s 200-Free relay team finished 11th and the 400-Free relay team finished 16th. Suzie Beamguard finished 11th in the 200-Free and the 500-Free, while Emily Post finished 21st in the 200-Free and 24th in the 100-Butterfly. The men’s 400-Free relay team finished 19th. Tyler Sprague finished 16th in the 200-Free and 13th in the 500-Free, while CJ Walden finished 22nd in the 500-Free. Congratulations Falcons!

Congratulations to Kacey Cleary who won first place for Creative Writing at Beta Convention last week.

Lastly, I would like to congratulate our students of the month for January. For the 9th grade class, Edwin Pozo; for the 10th grade class, Hayden Adams; for the 11th grade class, Zeke Matthews; and for the 12th grade class, Monlea George.

No School Tomorrow, Monday, February 11
As a reminder, there will be no school tomorrow, Monday, February 11 for students. Classes will resume on Tuesday, February 12.

Student Services
An Admissions Counselor will be here to talk with any students interested in or planning to attend NC State University. Sign up in Student Services if you would like to attend. The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, February 13 at 2pm in the Media Center.

Athletics
Tryouts for women’s soccer will be held this Wednesday, February 13, beginning at 4pm.

We will have an Athletics Booster Club meeting tomorrow, Monday, February 11 beginning at 6pm in Cafeteria One. We hope to see you there.

Principal's Message - 2/3/19

Good evening, this is Mr. Kennedy, principal of Forbush High School. I have a few announcements and updates I would like to share with you this evening.

Congratulations to our FHS Wrestling Team
I want to begin this evening by congratulating our wrestling team on their recent performance at the conference tournament. The team finished third overall with several wrestlers placing in the top-3 in their respective weight class. Wayne Robichaud, Worth Martin, and Jovanis Pozo finishing third, while Hayden Price finished second. Edwin Pozo, Eli Thomas, and Chase Farmer finished as conference champs. Congratulations to our Forbush Wrestling team.

Forbush High School Hall of Fame
I would like to thank everyone who was able to attend the Induction Ceremony for our Inaugural Class of the Forbush Hall of Fame last Friday. It was great to have the opportunity to honor so many people who have made such a positive impact on Forbush High School over the 50+ year history of our school. The new Hall of Fame plaques can be found in the lobby of A Building for anyone who would like to see them in the future. If you would like to nominate someone for next year’s Hall of Fame class, the nomination process will open in March. Please check out our website at that time for more details.

8th Grade Open House This Tuesday
Current 8th grade students and their parents are invited to attend the Forbush High School "8th Grade Open House" on Tuesday, February 5, from 5pm to 7pm. This will be a floating Open House with department representatives available in the Forbush High School Gym to meet with students and their parents. We will also have two short presentations in Cafeteria One, beginning at 5pm and 6pm. We hope to see you there!
