Principal's Message - 3/31/19

Good evening, this is Mr. Kennedy, principal of Forbush High School. I have a few announcements and updates I would like to share with you this evening.

Forbush Hunter Safety
Congratulations to our Forbush Hunter Safety Team on their performance at a recent competition. Our first team finished in first place in orientering, first place in rifle, second place in shotgun, and third place in bow. Our second team also finished in second place in orienteering. Also, Garrett Poindexter finished as the first place individual overall and Dalton Matthews finished first in orienteering and book work. Congratulations to our Hunter Safety Team!

HOSA Blood Drive
Thank you to everyone who donated at our recent HOSA Blood Drive. Forbush collected 153 units of blood at this year’s spring drive. Shout out to Mrs. Sloan, Ms. Carter, and all of the HOSA students who helped organize our blood drives this year.

Forbush Band
Congratulations to the following Forbush band students who have been selected to participate in the 2019 Piedmont Honors Band: Spencer North, Delaney Coy, Kristian Davis, Mary Faulkner, and Emily Post. This is quite an honor for our band program, so congratulations to these students and best of luck!

Shrek the Musical, Jr.
Public performances of our Spring Musical, Shrek the Musical Jr., will be on April 5th & 6th at 7:00pm in the FHS auditorium. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door while they last.

Service Hours Due Tomorrow
All Service Hours for BETA, National Honor Society, and Community Service Recognition Program are due tomorrow, Monday, April 1 to Ms. Hauser 204B.

Yearbooks
Students, this week is your last chance to order a yearbook. Yearbooks will be on sale in the lobby of A-Building during all lunches. Yearbooks are $70 and online orders are now closed. Once again, this coming week is your last chance to order a yearbook.

Prom Tickets
Students, if you would like to purchase a prom ticket this week, please see Senora Helton before school, after school, or during your lunch. Remember, all school and cafeteria debt must be paid in full before you can receive your prom ticket.

SCC Open House events
Surry Community College is offering several Open House nights for various programs. Please visit our Facebook page or Twitter account for detailed information about these events.

Principal's Message - 3/24/19

Good evening, this is Mr. Kennedy, principal of Forbush High School. I have a few announcements and updates I would like to share with you this evening.

Forbush Band and Concert Choir
Our Forbush Band and Concert Choir recently performed for Music Performance Adjudication. I am proud to announce that our band received a rating of Excellent on stage for prepared pieces and a rating of Superior in the sight reading room. Additionally, the Concert Choir received a Superior rating, which is the highest rating a High School Choral group can receive in the state. Congratulations to our band and concert choir!

Forbush DECA
Congratulations to DECA on their recent accomplishments at the North Carolina Career Development Conference. Austin Pardue was a medalist in entrepreneurship for top role play and for the Screening and Nominating Committee, while Kayden East, Mallory Fobes, Laura Wyrick and Chasten Coleman were awarded medals for Certified Guest Service Professional (CGSP). Meghan Anthony, Jesse Keaton, Abigail Lydick, Jaron Sears, and Angela Styers were also awarded proficiency in their events. Congratulations Forbush DECA!

Transportation Field Trips
If you have signed up for one or more of the field trips organized by Mr. Senter, your medical forms must be turned in to him by tomorrow (Monday, March 25) by 3:15 or you will not be able to attend.

March of Dimes
HOSA will be collecting donations for March of Dimes this week in 4th period. Please help Forbush HOSA reach their goal of donating $400 to March of Dimes.

Guest Speaker - Holocaust Survivor
Forbush High School is inviting a Holocaust survivor to visit our school and speak to students on Thursday, May 9. Students who would like to attend must complete a survey on Canvas that has been released under the CIPA module. For those unable to attend, the presentation will be broadcast on YouTube Live. Attendance, behavior, and grades will be factored into determining who is eligible to attend, so please complete the survey by Friday, March 29, if you wish to attend.

Spring Musical April 5 and 6
Public performances of our Spring Musical, Shrek the Musical Jr., will be on April 5th & 6th at 7:00pm in the FHS auditorium. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door while they last.

Senior Information
Parents, this is a reminder that seniors recently received commencement ticket request forms and senior trip permission forms. Please complete these forms and return them to room 513E by Thursday, April 11. Also, Josten balances for graduation supplies must be paid before receiving your cap and gown on April 11.

Principal's Message - 3/17/19

Good evening, this is Mr. Kennedy, principal of Forbush High School. I have a few announcements and updates I would like to share with you this evening.

Forbush HOSA Accomplishments
Congratulations to Forbush HOSA on their recent performance at the HOSA State Leadership Conference. As a chapter, Forbush HOSA received the following recognitions: Gold Star Chapter, Gold Star Advisor, Century Club, Prevent Blindness, and American Red Cross Award (for having the largest number of blood units collected). Several individual students received awards as well, with over 30 students competing. The following students finished in the top 3 in the region:

Zayley St. John, Human Growth & Development
Natalie Doub and Sophia Haynes, CHD Team
Mckenzie Pruitt, Job Seeking Skills
Ragan Cave, Ainsley Davis, Olivia Murphy, and Katey Williams, 1st place, Creative Problem Solving Team
Laura Wyrick, 1st place, Job Seeking Skills
Yamel Cortez, 1st place, Extemporaneous writing and 4th place overall in the State
Audrey Whitley, 1st place, Speaking Skills and 1st place overall in the State

Once again, congratulations Forbush HOSA!

Men's and Women's Basketball Teams
The following basketball players earned All-Conference recognition this school year. For the men’s team, Landon Rocket was named All-Conference while Ben Hughart and Sinjun Southard were named All-Conference Honorable Mention. For the women’s team, Nicole Scott, Hope Grimes, and Kyndall Ellison were named All-Conference, while Parkley Hennings was named Conference Player of the Year. Brittney Gammons and Morgan Beane were named All-Conference Honorable Mention. Coach Bradley Shore was named the WPAC Coach of the Year. Hennings and Scott were also named All-District and Shore was named District Coach of the Year. Congratulations to our men’s and women’s basketball teams!

Spring Blood Drive
Forbush HOSA will sponsor their Spring Blood Drive this Friday, March 22. Please see Mrs. Sloan in room 519-E to sign up. Once again, our Spring Blood Drive is this Friday, March 22.

Athletics Booster Club Meeting
The Athletics Booster Club will meet this Thursday, March 21, at 7pm in Cafeteria 1. All parents of student-athletes are invited to attend.

Interested in a Career in Transportation?
Anyone interested in a career in transportation (including auto service, machining, parts and equipment sales, and other jobs), please see Mr. Senter in 519E before March 20. Mr. Senter will be taking the first 50 eligible students on field trips in March and April to explore these career opportunities. Once again, please see Mr. Senter by March 20 if you are interested.

Interested in a Career in Law Enforcement?
Officers from the Winston-Salem Police Department will be on campus this Tuesday, March 19, to meet with students interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement. Sign up with Mrs. Monroe tomorrow or meet the officers in the lobby of A-Building during all lunches this Tuesday.

Principal's Message - 3/10/19

Good evening, this is Mr. Kennedy, principal of Forbush High School. I have a few announcements and updates I would like to share with you this evening.

Congratulations to our Women's Basketball Team
I would like to begin this evening by congratulating our women’s basketball team on their excellent season. Though our Falcons lost yesterday in the Western Regional Finals, Forbush finished the year with a 27-4 record, advancing to the Final Four for the first time in school history. Our girls also won the conference championship this season for the second year in a row. Also, I want to give a shout out to all the students, parents, staff, and community members who traveled to Hickory yesterday to cheer on our team. It was amazing to see so many Forbush fans in attendance supporting our Falcons! Once again, congratulations to our women’s basketball team on your historic season!

ACT this Tuesday
This Tuesday, March 12, all Juniors will be taking the ACT. All Juniors are reminded to report to their testing location as soon as the bell rings to start the school day. Juniors, don’t forget, ACT information and prep activities can be found on our school website under the “Students” tab. For all students not taking the ACT, Tuesday, March 12 will be a regular school day with a normal bell schedule.

End of Third Quarter this Thursday - No School Friday
Students and parents, this is a reminder that this Thursday, March 14 marks the end of the quarter. Students, please be sure to speak with your teacher tomorrow regarding any missing assignments, as teachers will be finalizing grades for the quarter by the end of this week. Also, be reminded that there will be no school for students on Friday, March 15. Classes will resume on Monday, March 18.

Informational Meeting
Forbush High School will hold an informational meeting on Friday, March 15, at 7pm to discuss plans for the spectator-seating project at the soccer field. The meeting will be held in room 516-E on the campus of Forbush High School. All interested parties are encouraged to attend. Senior Information

Principal's Message - 3/3/19

Good evening, this is Mr. Kennedy, principal of Forbush High School. I have a few announcements and updates I would like to share with you this evening.

Women's Basketball
I would like to congratulate our Forbush women’s basketball team on their victory over Wilkes Central yesterday in the third round of the 2A State Playoffs. The Lady Falcons will now travel to Salisbury this Tuesday to face the Hornets in the Western Regional Semifinals.

Forbush Wrestling - Eli Thomas
I want to wish congratulations to Forbush wrestler Eli Thomas for his recent performance at the state wrestling championships in Greensboro. Eli wrestled four incredible matches and made it all the way to the championship match. While Eli did not win the title match, he is one of only ten wrestlers in Forbush history to make it to the championship, having finished second in the state in his weight class. Congratulations to Eli on an incredible season!

Skills USA
Congratulations to our Skills USA club members on their recent performance at the Regional Competition. The following students finished in the top 3 in their respective category: Ethan Wade Snow - 1st place Automotive Beginners, Ethan Tyler Snow - 1st place Electrical Wiring, Athan Wilson - 1st place Principles of Engineering Technology, Alesha Milholand - 1st place Power Equipment Technology, Sophie Lanier - 2nd place First Aid/CPR, Zach Morris - 3rd place Motorcycle Technology, and Ben Huffman - 3rd place Welding Sculpture

Art Club Meeting
There will be an Art Club meeting this Tuesday, March 5, beginning at 7:50am in room 701-H. Once again, if you are a member of the Art Club, the next meeting is this Tuesday, March 5, beginning at 7:50am in room 701-H.
