Principal's Message - 10/27/19

Good evening, this is Dr. Kennedy, principal of Forbush High School. I hope everyone has had a relaxing weekend. I have a few announcements and updates I would like to share with you this evening.

Student Accomplishments
Congratulations to the Forbush JROTC Falcon Raider Team. They competed at West Rowan HS last weekend. Cadets ran a 5k with obstacles that included a tire flip, a fireman carry, and scaling a 10-foot wall. Cadets Ben Trivette and Perla Delgado finished in 2nd place in the Co-Ed Division.

Congratulations to our women’s tennis team on a historic season. Our Falcons won a conference title for the first time since 1976, advanced to the second round of the state dual team playoffs, and the doubles team of Megan Smith and Lindsay Ray finished tied for 5th in the state in 2A doubles play. This was the most successful women’s tennis season in Forbush history, so congratulations to our girls and to coach Justin Vestal on a fantastic year!

Congratulations to our FFA Land Judging team for their great performance last week at the Wilkes Land Judging Contest. Allie Long finished as the 2nd highest overall individual while Kaleb Matthews finished 3rd overall.

Band-Aids for Brenner's
HOSA will be collecting new, unopened boxes of character and colorful Band-Aids for their Band-Aids for Brenner’s service project. We are asking first period classes to donate and the first period class that collects the most Band-Aids will receive Bojangles biscuits as a reward. The collection dates will run through this Friday, November 1.

Jostens Representative
A representative with Jostens will meet with all seniors this Wednesday at 10am. The representative will also meet with sophomores at 10:30am this Wednesday.

Boo Grams for Swim Team
The Forbush Swim Team will be selling “Boo Grams” during lunch in the Lobby of A-Building tomorrow through Thursday. “Boo Grams” are a Halloween-themed cupcake and will be delivered during 4th period on Halloween Day, this Thursday.

Athletics Booster Club Meeting
The Athletics Booster Club will be meeting tomorrow, Monday October 28 at 7pm in Cafeteria 1. Join us as we get prepared for the Winter athletic season. Please join us as we work to support and improve our athletic department for our students.

Principal's Message - 10/20/19

Good evening, this is Dr. Kennedy, principal of Forbush High School. I hope everyone has had a relaxing weekend. I have a few announcements and updates I would like to share with you this evening.

No School Monday, October 21
As a reminder, there will be no school for students tomorrow, Monday, October 21. Report cards will go home with students on Tuesday, October 22.

Congratulations Forbush Volleyball
Congratulations to our Forbush volleyball team on winning their second straight conference title. Our Falcons finished the regular season 13-1 in conference play and won back-to-back conference championships for the first time in 20 years. Post-season play begins this week with the conference tournament. Be sure to follow us on social media for updates about the conference tournament.

Free College Application Week
This week is Free College Application Week. Visit Student Services this week for a list of colleges offering free applications. This Thursday, October 24 is College Application Help Day. College counselors will be on campus in the media center to assist with applications and answer any questions you may have.

HOSA Sponsoring Band-Aids for Brenner's
HOSA will be starting a “Band-Aids for Brenner’s” service project this week. HOSA will be collecting new, unopened boxes of character and colorful Band-Aids. Winter Sports
If you are interested in Indoor Track, come by room 607-G to pick up an information packet. Also, be sure to sign up on the sheet posted on the door.

If you are interested in wrestling this year, see coach Farmer in room 803-J. Open Mats are Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7pm in the Fieldhouse.

If you are interested in joining the swim team, see one of the swim coaches, including Mr. Beuter in 202-B, Mr. Vestal in 604-G, or Mrs. Saddler in 305-C.

Principal's Message - 10/13/19

Good evening, this is Dr. Kennedy, principal of Forbush High School. I hope everyone has had a relaxing weekend. I have a few announcements and updates I would like to share with you this evening.

No School October 18 and 21
The First Quarter of the school year ends this week. As a reminder, there will be no school for students on Friday, October 18 or the following Monday, October 21. Report cards will go home with students on Tuesday, October 22.

Student Accomplishments
Congratulations to our FFA Forestry team, who placed 1st at the Federation Forestry Contest. FFA chapters from Wilkes, Surry, and Yadkin competed in this event. Kaleb Matthews was the highest overall individual at the contest with a score of 329 out of 400. Team members include Kaleb Matthews, Ezekiel Matthews, Allie Long, and Josh Long.

Congratulations to the following students who earned their State Leadership Award last week at the State Leadership Camp: Zeke Matthews, Laura Matthews, Haley Beane, Luke Lawson, Hunter Hutchens, Ethan T. Snow, Caitlin Beamon, Beau Webb, Athan Wilson, and Kaitlin Post.

College Application Prep Week
The week is College Application Prep Week. Students, if you are considering post-secondary opportunities, be sure to use this week to get your materials together for your college application. Thursday, October 17 is College Shirt Day, so be sure to wear a shirt with your favorite college this Thursday.

NHS Officer Application
Any current National Honor Society Member interested in being an officer this year, please see Mrs. Roberts in room 706H by this Tuesday, October 15 to pick up an application.

Principal's Message - 10/6/19

Good evening, this is Dr. Kennedy, principal of Forbush High School. I hope everyone has had a relaxing weekend. I have a few announcements and updates I would like to share with you this evening.

Congratulations
I want to congratulate our women’s tennis team on winning the conference championship last week. Our Falcons finished the regular season with an undefeated conference record, winning their first conference title since 1976. Forbush begins postseason play in the coming weeks.

I want to thank all of the students who recently participated in our “Pjammin Day” to raise money and awareness for childhood cancer. Overall, our school raised $595 that will be donated to the American Childhood Cancer Society.

Homecoming Spirit Week
In week is Homecoming Spirit Week as our football team prepares to take on North Surry this Friday evening. The themes for each day this week are: Monday PJ Day, Tropical Tuesday, Western Wednesday, Character Day on Thursday, and on Friday freshmen wear white, sophomores wear red, juniors wear blue, and seniors wear black.

Homecoming Dance
The Forbush Homecoming Dance is scheduled for Saturday, October 12 from 7 to 10 in the Forbush Gym. Tickets will be on sale this week during all lunches in the lobby of A building. Tickets are $10. If you are bringing an outside guest, please come by 703H to pick up an outside guest form. Outside guest forms are due Monday, October 7.

Student Services
Student Services is hosting a FAFSA and Residency presentation this Thursday, October 10 at 8:30am in the Forbush Media Center. Seniors, if you would like to attend, see Mrs. Monroe in Student Services.

Field Trip Tomorrow
If you are traveling to the Dixie Classic Fair tomorrow, Monday, October 7 with Mr. Senter or Mr. Calloway, please meet in room 526E at the beginning of 1st period tomorrow.
