Principal's Message - 8/5/18

Good evening, this is Mr. Kennedy, principal of Forbush High School. I hope everyone is enjoying the summer break so far. With just a few weeks left before school begins, I have a few announcements I would like to share with everyone tonight.

Congratulations
I want to begin by congratulating our Hunter Safety team and our Cheerleading team for their recent accomplishments. The Forbush Hunter Safety team recently finished third in the national hunter safety competition in Pennsylvania. The Cheerleading team finished first among teams from North Carolina and Georgia at their recent camp at Appalachian State University. Congratulations to both of these organizations!

Student Parking Permits
Seniors may purchase parking passes tomorrow and Tuesday from 1pm to 4pm. Juniors and Seniors may purchase parking passes on August 8 and August 9 from 1pm to 4pm. Please visit our website and complete a student parking permit application. Also, please remember that your instructional fee, as well as any student debt from previous years, must be paid before you can receive your parking permit.

Open House
For the convenience of our students and parents, Forbush High School will offer Open House on two days this year. Our campus will be open on Wednesday, August 15, from 9am to 12pm, and on Thursday, August 16, from 1pm to 7pm. During these times, students should report to their Homeroom teacher to pick up their class schedule and pay their Instructional fee. After students have received their schedule, they may meet with their teachers and complete Chromebook rental paperwork. Please note, parents must be present in order for students to complete their Chromebook rental paperwork.

Freshmen Orientation
For our rising 9th grade students, Freshmen Orientation is scheduled for Wednesday, August 15 and will begin at 1pm in the gymnasium. Once again, Freshmen Orientation will begin at 1pm in the gymnasium on Wednesday, August 15.

End of Year Parent Survey
I want to close this evening by thanking everyone who completed our end of year parent survey last spring. I was able to gather a lot of valuable information in that survey and I want to touch on a few topics this evening.

I want to reiterate that the safety and well-being of our students continues to be a top priority for our staff. We are putting some logistical and procedural changes in place this year in order to ensure student safety while also maintaining an orderly campus that emphasizes consistent student discipline practices. We will also be focusing on two-way communication this year, with an emphasis on encouraging staff and parents to communicate more regularly in order to provide assistance for students are struggling academically or behaviorally.

These are just a few of the areas in which we will be focusing this year. As always, I encourage parents and family members to contact me any time if you ever have any questions, comments, concerns, or suggestions. I am proud to be your principal and I am looking forward to another great school year at Forbush High School.
