Principal's Message - 3/1/20

Good evening, this is Dr. Kennedy, principal of Forbush High School. I hope everyone has had a relaxing weekend. I have a few announcements and updates I would like to share with you this evening.

Women's Basketball
Congratulations to our women’s basketball team on advancing to the 4th round of the 2A State Playoffs. Our Lady Falcons won the conference regular season and tournament championships and have won their first three playoff games. Forbush now advances to the West Regional Semifinals to be played this week. The location and game time will be announced in the next couple of days on our social media platforms.

Forbush Skills
Congratulations to our Forbush Skills students who recently competed at the Regional Skills Competition. The following students placed in the top three in their respective categories.

1st Place: James Willard, Zach Brady, and Athan Wilson
2nd Place: Hunter Hutchens
3rd Place: Zeke Matthews, Eli Pendergrass, Beau Webb, Isaac Cranfill, and Zach Miller

Wrestling
Congratulations to Eli Thomas (106lb), who finished in 3rd place at the NCHSAA 2A State Tournament! Despite losing a tough match in the quarterfinals, Eli battled back to win his next FOUR matches to claim the 3rd place finish and a spot on the All-State Team!

Inclement Weather Makeup Days
Yadkin County Schools has released information about makeup days from the two inclement weather days we had earlier in the semester. Monday, March 9, will now be a regular student day. Tuesday, March 10, will now be an early dismissal day. Students will be released at noon on Tuesday, March 10. Yadkin County Schools was unable to make March 10 a full student day due to previously scheduled staff development across the county.

Bush Band
The Forbush Band is sponsoring a Port-A-Pit Chicken Fundraiser. The meal includes 1/2 Chicken, Baked Beans, BBQ Slaw & Roll. Cost is $10 per plate and you may pick up your plate after school until 6:30PM on Friday, March 6 at Forbush High School. Please see Anna Peterson or any concert band student to purchase tickets.

National Technical Honor Society Meeting
The National Technical Honor Society will meet this Friday at 7:45 am in room 304C. This is for current and new members. See Mr. Brendle, Mr. Senter, or Ms. Sizemore if you cannot attend.

Shore Scholars
Applications for the Shore Scholars program are now open. The Shore Scholars program is no cost to the student and post-secondary financial assistance of up to $1,200 a year is available. The program also provides each student with a mentor within a peer cohort. If you have at least a 3.0 GPA and are seeking college or career training for after high school, see your counselor for an application in the Student Services office.
