Principal's Message - 1/8/17

Good evening, this is Mr. Kennedy, principal of Forbush High School. I have a few announcements and updates I would like to share with you this evening.

School Closing and Exam Schedule
It was announced this afternoon that all Yadkin County Schools will be closed tomorrow (Monday, January 9) due to hazardous driving conditions caused by the recent snow storm. As of today, no decision has been made regarding school for Tuesday, January 10. If Yadkin County Schools are open on Tuesday, students will take their First Period exams. If school is closed on Tuesday, students will take their First Period exam when we return to school on Wednesday, January 11. If we have a two-hour delay on Tuesday or any day this week, exams will be given. Please be sure to check our web site, as well as our Facebook page and Twitter account, for the latest information about school closings, delays, and the exam schedule.

Additional Announcements and Reminders
Forbush Elementary School will be hosting a Blood Drive on Tuesday, January 10 from 1pm to 6pm, weather permitting. The Blood Drive will be held in memory of Marshall Baker, a Forbush High student who passed away recently after a long battle with cancer. You can register for the Blood Drive online through the American Red Cross or you can call FES at 336-699-8447 to schedule an appointment.

Students who have accumulated more than 8 unexcused absences during the fall semester are asked to pick up their attendance appeals paperwork in the Pass Room when we return to school this week. All paperwork is due on Friday, January 20, in order to be considered. Please see Mrs. Baity or an administrator if you have any questions about the attendance appeals process.

Looking ahead, I wanted to make everyone aware about a change to the school calendar for the month of February. Due to statewide ACT testing, February 28 (which was previously a teacher workday) has been changed to a student day. February 24 (which was previously a student day) will now be a teacher workday. February 27 will remain a teacher workday as previously scheduled. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email me. These changes have been added to our school’s Google calendar on our web site.
