Principal's Message - 2/12/17

Good evening, this is Mr. Kennedy, principal of Forbush High School. I have a few announcements and updates I would like to share with you this evening.

Student-Athlete Accomplishments
I want to begin tonight by celebrating some of our student-athletes. The 2A Mid-West Wrestling Regional was held yesterday and two of our wrestlers, Edwin Alvarenga and Caleb Price, advanced to the State Finals scheduled for later this week. Jonathan Lopez, Chase Farmer, Cody Farmer, and Carson Pruitt also competed at Regionals, so congratulations to all of our Forbush wrestlers and good luck to Edwin and Caleb at States this week.

Our Indoor Track team competed at the State Championships last Friday and performed very well. Dakota Mendenhall, Madisun Shore, Caroline Owens, Monserrat Andrade, and Mackenzie Fulk posted great performances. Anna Kathryn Kilby took home the state title in the 3,200 meter run, her second state championship of the school year. AK also won the 2A Cross Country state title earlier in the fall and is the first student-athlete in the history of Forbush High School to win more than one individual state title in any sport. Congrats to her and the entire Indoor Track team!

Spring Registration
9th, 10th, and 11th grade students received their registration forms this past week. Students, please complete as much as possible on these forms before your individual meeting with your school counselor. Meetings for Juniors and Sophomores begin tomorrow, while meetings for Freshmen will begin March 6. Students, please add Honors Physics as another science course option on your registration form. Honors Physics is available for sophomores and juniors who have completed Honors Math III.

Home Athletic Events
The semifinals and finals of the WPAC basketball conference tournament will be played at Forbush this week. The men’s team travels to Surry Central tomorrow night for the first round of the tournament. The women’s team will play at home in the semifinals on Thursday at 6pm. The men’s and women’s championship games are scheduled for Friday night.

That is all for this evening. Don’t forget to follow us on Twitter or like us on Facebook for daily updates and announcements. Also, do not hesitate to call or email me if you ever have any questions or concerns. Thank you very much for your time this evening. Good night.
