Principal's Message - 11/24/19

Good evening, this is Dr. Kennedy, principal of Forbush High School. I hope everyone has had a relaxing weekend. I have a few announcements and updates I would like to share with you this evening.

No School November 27 - 29
I would like to begin this evening by reminding everyone that there will be no school for students this Wednesday, November 27 through Friday, November 29 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. Classes will resume for students on Monday, December 2.

Forbush Theatre
Congratulations to our Theatre department for their excellent performance of The Little Mermaid Jr. this week. Our students put on another awesome show for our community! I would like to thank our theatre teacher, Jamie Campbell, for all her hard work. Also, thank you to all the parent volunteers within the Theatre Booster Club for their support of Forbush Arts.

Forbush HOSA
Several members of HOSA competed in the Piedmont Triad Regional HOSA competition recently held at Mount Airy High School. 17 students placed in the top-12 or better in various events. First place finishers included Zayley St. John for Human Growth and Development, Stacy Lowe in Physical Therapy, and Audrey Whitley in Speaking Skills. Congratulations to HOSA advisor Adrianna Sloan and Forbush HOSA.

Forbush FFA
Congratulations to Forbush FFA for placing 7th out of 29 teams who competed in the recent State FFA Land Judging Event. Out of the 109 competitors in the senior division, Ezekiel Matthews was recognized for placing 5th individually! Also, Kaleb Matthews placed 30th and Allie Long placed 78th respectively. Congratulations to FFA advisor Steven Calloway and the Forbush FFA.

Friends Feeding Friends
The Friends Feeding Friends food drive is underway. Students, please bring canned food items to your first period class. Other items that are in high need include: toothpaste, soap, toilet paper, laundry detergent, and dish detergent. (We are not in need of diapers at this time.) You may also give monetary donations. Each week the first period class that donates the most will receive breakfast and the class that donates the most overall will receive a special gift from Lowes Foods. Please help us help families in need during this Holiday season.

Forbush Angel Tree
Students, if you would like to donate a gift for the Forbush Angel Tree, drop by the office this week. You can choose an ornament, shop for the gift, and return the gift unwrapped to Mrs. Gentry in the office. You will receive two hours of community service and all gifts are due by December 9.

Yearbook Senior Page
Seniors, it's time to think about your Senior Page for the Yearbook. Go to the Forbush High School Website and click on the Yearbook Page under the Student tab for all the information. Ads are due December 20.

That is all for this evening. If you ever have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me anytime. As a reminder, please be sure to follow us on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram to stay up-to-date on everything happening at Forbush High School. Thank you for your time this evening, goodnight.
